China Broadcasting News - The Next Generation Broadcast Network (NGB) gained substantial progress, Shanghai set up the demonstration NGB  
According to Sina, the launching ceremony for the construction of NGB demonstration network in Shanghai took place on July 31. On the ceremony, the Ministry of Science and Technology, SARFT and Shanghai municipal government singed cooperation agreement that marked NGB construction has enter into the substantive stage.
 
It is predicted that by the end of 2010, Shanhai will finish the construction of NGB in the demonstration areas for about 500,000 households.
 
NGB, based on the digital CATV and CMMB technologies, has the core technology 3TNet as backbone and features function of the Three Network Convergence, combining cable and wireless transmissions with all-in-one network nation wide. 
 
NGB improves the unidirectional broadcast network to the bidirectional broadband with overall business services.
 
Some insiders indicated that the SARFT strongly improve NGB aiming at radically changing the operation structure of the broadcast network in order to turn the role of broadcasting operators from the single content transmitters to the comprehensive information providers. If the project succeeds, the current industry structure will be greatly changed
 
The director of Since and Technology Bureau, SARFT, Mrs. Wang Xiaojie indicated that the object of NGB is to take 3 years to build the demonstration networks with coverage of main cities and 10 years to build NGB nation wide and make it to become the China¡¯s new generation information infrastructure with the facture of the Three Networks Convergence.
